―Speedy and Harrison

Chug of War, retitled Wilson and the Steam Team for American releases, is the fifth episode of the second season.

Plot

None of the chuggers want to go to the mine, so Speedy suggests that they have a chug of war, to which Vee agrees to have. Speedy picks Harrison as the other team captain. Speedy thinks breathing is best for training, but Harrison thinks working is better. Wilson wants to be on Team Harrison and is mistaken as a spy by Harrison. Vee then asks Wilson to go get a piece of rolling stock, leading to Wilson getting stuck. The chug of war is about to begin, and by breathing, Wilson is set free just at the right time to help win the Chug of War!

Trivia

  • This is the first and only episode to have different titles in the UK and US.
  • The title and the competition itself is a parody of the game, Tug of War.
  • Going by production order, this is the seventh episode of the second season.
    • This episode marks the switch between the old and new coupler design, as several shots still use them. It is possible that some scenes were re-animated to accommodate the new couplers.
  • The Chug of War teams formed in the episode were in the following order:
    • Team Speedy: Olwin, Old Puffer Pete, Dunbar, Zephie, Chatsworth and Wilson.
    • Team Harrison: Calley, Mtambo, Koko, Irving, Hodge and Brewster.
  • This marks the first appearance of Border Bridge.
  • The American title card has a different font than the rest of the title, or the other titles seen in the series. This would also occur for the Chuggington: Badge Quest episodes, Running on Time and Knowing Where you are Going.
  • Zephie is the only character in this episode that doesn't speak.

Goofs

  • In one shot of the meeting on who will be sent to the mines, Pete is missing a majority of his details.
  • During the scene where Wilson asks Hodge to swap with him, part of Koko's body overlaps Mtambo.
  • In one shot of the Steam Team on the bridge, Olwin is seen equipped with her snow horn and lantern.
