- “Let's get those wheels to the rails!”
- ―Dunbar's catchphrase
Dunbar is a green Scottish diesel-electric hybrid chugger who works in logistics and lecturing in Chuggington. He is a former teacher for the trainees; he would leave Chuggington for a trip around the world before his brief return, in which he would leave once more soon afterwards.
Biography
When Wilson, Brewster and Koko left the Depot to make their first delivery, Dunbar was noticably anxious about their safety- thankfully, the trainees all made it home safely.[1] Some time later, the Depot was under inspection to whom everyone assume was Mr. Nicholas and due to Emery's own persnickety order, stressed everyone out, including Dunbar who was trying to organize the Rolling Stock Yard. [2] Another time, Dunbar accidentally wear out his voice box and loses his voice. It wasn't until Wilson managed to bring him some nice warn oil from the greaser car, Dunbar had the ability to talk again. [3]
Soon after, Dunbar was called out to make a delivery while he was teaching the trainees with the Storm Maker; Dunbar felt that the trainees would be fine as it only responded to his own voice. Wilson, wanting to try it out for himself, mimicked Dunbar's voice to turn it on, which worked; unfortunately, this caused extremely high winds that led to the entire Depot being evacuated. Luckily, Wilson, Brewster, and Koko were able to turn it off before Dunbar returned. [4]
While trying to prepare for Old Puffer Pete's 150th anniversary, Dunbar tries to create a dance by the trainees, but the rehearsals looked terrible. Feeling bad, the trainees practiced extra hard to get the moves just right for the big day. [5]
After many years of teaching, Dunbar retired to explore the world, leaving Skylar in charge of his teaching duties. This sadness the trainees, most especially Brewster, but they all understood his means and wished a happy goodbye before they would see each other again. [6] Eventually, he would return, taking on hauling duties full-time. The trainees would later move to advance training to prelude in bigger jobs that will impact their lives.[7]
Dunbar would later assist Harrison in finding the perfect carriages for his passenger test.[8]
Personality
Dunbar is a shunting diesel engine who speaks with a Scottish accent. He tries to ensure that chuggers are hooked up with the right rolling stock- he has a strong work ethic and takes great pride in the role he plays in shaping the young trainees to be successful, hard-working engines. While he lacks much tolerance, Dunbar does care about the trainees, evident by his noticeable anxiety when they go off to make their first deliveries.[1] Dunbar wants to ensure that the young chuggers know how to control new rolling stock before they venture off for the day. When the trainees get frustrated and want to give up, Dunbar encourages them to keep trying; he is full of helpful tips and advice.
When he's not working with the trainees, Dunbar is often seen as a hard working chugger pulling goods across the line getting them to their destination. He can sometimes get a bit annoyed when things don't go as plan,[2][5] but once things are back in order again, Dunbar would always been seen filled with glee.
