Hopper cars are the primary type of open wagon in Chuggington and carry stone, ballast, dirt, scrap, and other materials.

Hopper cars are used in the Rip Roaring Relay Race. Dunbar taught Wilson and Brewster how to use the wagons during a training session.[1] Old Puffer Pete taught Wilson, Brewster and Koko to load hopper cars evenly so that pulling them would be easier and safer before a trip to the building site.[2] Brewster and Hamish hold the record for the heaviest hopper car pull in Chuggington.[3]

Technical Details[]

Functions[]

Hopper cars have doors at the bottom for dropping loads. In the first series episode, Brewster to the Rescue, a hopper car with brakes appears, but they are not visible. In the sixth series episode, Chug Patrol: Mission Thunder, a hopper car with a tipping function appears. However, the wagon's appearance as a hopper car was most likely a storyboarding oversight.

Basis[]

Hopper cars are based on mineral wagons from the early 1900's.

Livery[]

Hopper cars are painted in a variety of colours, consisting of blue, red, green, lime green, orange, yellow, purple and brown. Most hopper cars that appear in the series are blue.
