- “A steam chugger never forgets.”
- ―Speedy
Speedy McAllister, generally named Speedy, is a large red-violet streamlined steam locomotive who was first mentioned by Old Puffer Pete in the first season but made his first visual appearance in the second season episode, Frostini's Meltdown.
Biography
Speedy McAllister is an old and wise steam locomotive who comes across as being somewhat gruff and blunt in character, but means well and is helpful to experienced chuggers and trainees alike. He prefers more industrial jobs as opposed to those with a high degree of customer relations. Speedy always likes to take his time and never likes to rush which is in direct contrast to his name. This also leads him to often find impatient chuggers annoying.
Technical Details
Possible Basis
Speedy McAllister, while most likely a freelance design, appears to be loosely based on various streamlined 4-6-4 locomotives with the "shovelnose" design, such as the Chicago and North Western (CNW) Class E-4, the New York Central (NYC) Commodore Vanderbilt, the Milwaukee Road class F7, and the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) Class S-4a, minus the tender.
Unlike his basis, Speedy has a visible smokestack with a whistle placed in front of it, as well as what appear to be smoke deflectors on either side of his smokebox.
Livery
Speedy is painted red violet with a light sky blue underbite, and a blue and gold streamlined casting. His cab roof is also painted blue.

Trivia
- Speedy is the only chugger of the following:
- The only chugger in Chuggington with an actual last name. Although, Jackman was also intended to have one with his original name, "Logan Blaze".
- The only chugger with a 4-6-4 "Hudson" wheel arrangement and as such, has the most wheels of any chugger in Chuggington, at fourteen.
- Speedy is the second chugger to have a shovelnose design. The first being Frostini.
- Speedy is one of the fastest steam engines created. [1]
- In Polish, he is called "Chyży", which is a translation of his English name.
- He is disliked by Frostini in some episodes, due to his lack of empathy for him in the meltdown incident at his factory.
- Speedy reuses Olwin's coupling rods and cab roof, with the latter being rotated 180 degrees and recoloured blue.
- One of his driving wheels was reused for Piper.
- Warren Clarke gives Speedy a Yorkshire accent, while Stefan Ashton Frank gives him a faint Southern accent.
- His voice becomes slightly higher-pitched in the fourth season of the American dub.
- Similar to Olwin, Speedy is a tender-less engine. However, unlike Speedy, when Olwin collects coal, it is deposited through an opening in her cab roof. Since Speedy lacks this feature, it is unknown how he refuels on coal.
